    There are various names for the groupings of political parties which form governments. A Große Koalition is an alliance between the two large parties CDU/CSU and SPD, something which seldom happens on account of the incompatibility of their policies. A Kleine Koalition is an alliance between a large and a small party. Recently there has also been an Ampelkoalition – red for SPD, yellow for FDP and green for Bündnis 90/Die Grünen.
